The Mission (1986)
Directed by Roland Joffé, written by Robert Bolt

Summary by Alan Thomas from MoviesMatter:

This movie centers on Jesuit missionaries, as they bring the Gospel to native people in the jungle of South America.

Unwittingly, they get caught up in the political intrigue of faraway princes, and are given the opportunity to stand with the tribal people they've come to (and been given to) love, and the message they believe.

Two men, one a priest for many years, and another a recently convert, formerly a slave trader and mercenary himself, make very different choices.
